Who can apply

Nomination only: each year the foundation invites its Top Ten Centers of Biomedical Research (3 nominees each) plus at-large institutions (2 nominees). Nominees must be US citizens with full-time appointments at a participating institution.

How to apply

Applications route through each institution's internal Hartwell competition, run by its research development / limited-submissions office (internal deadlines are typically spring; CHOP's 2026 internal deadline was June 18). The foundation reviews nominees and announces awards in spring.
