Mitochondrial Disease & Neuromuscular Student Scholarships

Two student scholarships. The Matthew Harty Scholarship (MitoAction) is for high-school seniors or enrolled college students diagnosed with mitochondrial disease, with over $200,000 awarded since 2015; the 2026 cycle closed May 31. The MDA College Scholarship is merit-based, up to $5,000, for students with an MDA-supported neuromuscular disease; the 2026 deadline was March 15.
A Barth syndrome student qualifies for the MitoAction scholarship as a mitochondrial disease. For the MDA award, confirm whether MDA classifies Barth syndrome as covered at ResourceCenter@mdausa.org before applying.
Harty: students diagnosed with mitochondrial disease. MDA: US citizens or permanent residents with an MDA-covered disease; no age limit.
Both recur annually; apply on each organization's scholarship page when windows open.
