Uplifting Athletes (backed by Sanofi, Alexion, UCB, Takeda, Jazz)
Unrestricted grants to around 10 early-career rare-disease researchers each year, awarded at an NFL-style draft event at Lincoln Financial Field. $1.42M has gone to 75 researchers to date.
Categories include rare genetic disorders and rare muscular and neurological disorders, both of which cover Barth syndrome. Disease-specific advocacy organizations nominate and co-fund selected researchers, which is a route BSF could use.
Early-career investigators doing collaborative basic bench research on rare disease; US and Canadian institutions represented.
