Funds international, interdisciplinary teams of 2–4 PIs doing basic 'frontier' life science — no applied, clinical, or drug-development work — plus postdoctoral fellowships requiring an international move.

Why it's in this index

A mechanistic cardiolipin-biophysics collaboration, such as a US biologist with an EU physicist, qualifies. A translational BTHS therapy project does not.

Who can apply

Research Grants: independent lab heads anywhere, with at least one member in an HFSP member country; teams should be intercontinental with no substantial prior joint publications. Early Career variant: all members ≤5 yrs independent and ≤10 yrs post-PhD. Fellowships: PhDs changing fields and countries.

How to apply

Two-stage via ProposalCentral: LOIs initiate ~mid-March annually (grants) and ~May (fellowships); invited full proposals in September; awards the following March.
