Basic science

Investigator-driven frontier research in any field. Under the 2027 work programme: Starting (0–10 years post-PhD, up to €1.5M over 5 years), Consolidator (5–15 years, up to €2M), and Advanced (established leaders, up to €2.5M). Researchers may now win at most one Starting and one Consolidator grant over a career.

Relevant to European Barth syndrome labs working on tafazzin and cardiolipin. Selection is on frontier-science ambition, not disease burden.

Who can apply

Any nationality, but the host institution must be in an EU member state or Horizon-associated country and the PI must spend at least 50% of their time in Europe.
